Parents charged with child abandonment after a night out

The parents of three minors – 2, 5, and 15 – were charged with abandoning their children on Saturday, after neighbours alerted police to the baby’s crying the previous night.

According to Limassol CID spokesman Ioannis Soteriades, the Episkopi police station was notified that in a west-Limassol village a baby had been heard crying shortly before 4am.

Upon arriving at the scene, a police patrol found the three children at home alone. When asked, the children said their parents had gone out socially and were waiting for them to return.

The parents, both 39, were located and called to the station for questioning, where they offered explanations.

They were released after being charged with abandoning their children.

Soteriades said the state’s Social Services, as well as the Children Rights’ Commissioner have been alerted.
