Peyia residents happy with new development proposal

PEYIA residents said yesterday they were satisfied with a proposal submitted by a development company regarding the construction of areas of Coral Bay.

Talk of expansion of the area had long been in the pipeline, but it was only recently that the plans became more concrete. That infuriated residents of the area, who argued that development of Coral Bay would spoil the beautiful surroundings.

Residents of Peyia staged a protest on Wednesday night and were surprised to see representatives of the development company turn up and submit them a new proposal. The developers proposed a reduction in construction around the bay from 25 per cent to five per cent, something which the residents accepted.

Residents also agreed to plans for the developers, belonging to the Leptos Group, to build a restaurant close to the beach of the bay, a new parking space and have some shops installed around the bay.

Peyia Mayor Demetris Kappetzis told reporters that he was delighted with the outcome, adding that things now looked like working out fine, not just for the residents of Peyia, but also for the company.

A short drive north of Paphos, Coral Bay is known to be home to some of Cyprus’ best residential property, many perched on the stony hills looking down upon the bay.
