Big thanks to helpful Cypriot stranger

On Thursday August 20, my wife and two sons were driving down the Akamas Peninsula.  We were in what we believed to be a four-wheel drive vehicle, as it turns out it was not four-wheel drive (Toyota Rush SUV – beware!)

We became stuck in soft sand on a remote beach, somewhere close to the island of Geronisos.  The situation was quite serious, whilst we had plenty of water we were a long way from help and the car was axle-deep in sand.  However a couple with a Mitsubishi Pickup came down to the beach for a swim. Seeing our predicament they came to our assistance, the gentleman was extremely helpful in helping us dig out the car, and then eventually towing it off the beach with some old rope we found.

His name was Chris, evidently a local man, unfortunately we didn’t get the name of the lady.  So we should like to say thank you to this helpful Cypriot stranger who gave up his peaceful swim to dig and haul under the heat of the afternoon sun.  And also sound a note of warning that things can go wrong very quickly, and you should double-check the capabilities of your vehicle prior to taking it into hazardous environments.

Thanks and regards
