Helios Airways History

Helios Airways was established as the first independent private-owned airline in Cyprus in 1999 and was owned and operated by the Mouskos family. The airline was sold in November 2004 to Libra Holiday Group for £5 million.
• May 2000: First chartered flight to London Gatwick

• April 2001: Delivery of two new Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft

• May 2001: First scheduled flight to Sofia – Bulgaria

• June 2002: First scheduled flight to Dublin – Ireland

• December 2002: Launch of direct flights to London Luton

• December 2003: Launch of scheduled flights to Manchester (Terminal 1) and London Gatwick (South Terminal)

• April 2004: Delivery of Boeing 737-300 aircraft and launch of scheduled direct flights to London Heathrow (Terminal 2)

• May 2004: Launch of scheduled direct flights to Athens (‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ airport) – Greece

• November 2004: Launch of scheduled direct flights to Warsaw – Poland

• December 2004: Launch of scheduled direct flights to Birmingham

• March 2005: Launch of scheduled flights to Prague – Czech Republic

• April 2005: Launch of scheduled direct flights to Strasbourg Einzheim International Airport – France
