THE 35th annual Lefkara festival, which is organised every August, started on Thursday night.

The festival, which lasts until Tuesday, August 18, started off with an opening ceremony with the theme “The roads of Cypriot music: from the Middle ages until today”.

Opening at the same time were three exhibitions featuring Lefkara laces, silver, photographs and pictures, which the public can visit throughout the duration of the festival.

A performance by the Lefkara theatre group (in Greek) is planned for Friday night at 9pm.

The events on Saturday begin with a memorial church service, and a dinner dance will take place at the local elementary school at 8.30pm.

On Sunday, the public can make a blood donation at 11am and take part in a tour of Lefkara which is organised by the youth club that lasts for two hours starting at 6pm. There are also modern and traditional dances in the evening, as well as a musical evening with a performance by the popular band Papigion at 9pm.

Monday will see a ‘Lefkara night’ with music, dance and satire that kicks off at 8.30pm, a chance to be entertained by the local choir and dance groups.

The festival closes on Tuesday with a children’s theatrical performance at 8pm and more music at 9.30pm.

The entrance to the dinner dance with food is €10 for the public and €3for the musical event on Sunday. All other events are free of charge.
