Music for the holiday weekend

By Maria Gregoriou

Greek singer Michalis Hatzigiannis will be returning to his birth-place for two concerts this month. The first will be at Luma by the Sea in Larnaca on Friday, the second will be part of the Lofou August Festival next Saturday.

Hatzigiannis was discovered at the age of 18 when he took part in a local talent show called Afetiries where he won first prize. After his army service and after taking part in the European Song Contest representing Cyprus in 1998, he left for Greece.

He began his career in Greece by collaborating with Greek composer Giorgos Hatzinasios and lyricist Michalis Bourboulis to create his CD sing Aggigma Psychis (A Touch of the Soul).

In 2000 he released his debut album called Paraxenia Giorti (A Strange Celebration). The album released some of the biggest hits of the year and secured the singer’s place within the music industry.

In 2009 he released his first English single More Than Beautiful.

Hatzigiannis will be accompanied at Luma by the Sea by musicians George Ntagaki and Melina Mammas on stage.

Tickets for the Lofou event are available at all Sunfresh bakeries in the Limassol district.
