Kids to stay here

THEY’VE auditioned the kids, televised the competition and even invited the hapless winner onto Monday night’s Super Bingo variety show but it’s official: there will be no Junior Eurovision entry from Cyprus in this year’s competition.

Rena Kyriakides was originally selected to represent Cyprus with her song ‘Tsirko’ but the decision was subjected to unspecified rumours and objections over the selection process.
According to an announcement by the state broadcaster, the CyBC had put together a committee of musicians to examine the controversy and after getting all the facts together and ruling out all other possibilities, decided it was in Cyprus’ best interest to withdraw.

The head of the CyBC announced yesterday we would be officially withdrawing from the Junior Eurovision song contest in a telephone conversation with the president of the EBU Commission on Thursday.

The Commission accepted the withdrawal and gave their permission to allow the CyBC to broadcast the song contest and participate in the televote anyway.
