4.3 quake reported in Limassol (updated)

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Limassol on Tuesday evening, according to the Geological Survey Department’s director Dr Eleni Georgiou-Morisseau.

Speaking on the CyBC’s main news, Dr Morisseau said that the epicentre of the earthquake was in the mountainous region of Limassol, 18km north west of the town, at a depth of 15km.

She said that the quake was felt in Limassol and Larnaca. Social media users from Larnaca and Limassol reported that the earthquake was “short in duration but shook us quite a bit”, as one user from Limassol wrote. Dr Morisseau said that she contacted the Civil Defence department and was told that no injuries or damage were reported.
