Weight-loss supplement recalled

Health authorities on Thursday recalled a weight-loss supplement they said contained a substance which should be distributed only on prescription.

According to the health services, even though the substance Yohimbine is included in the Roxylean Super Concentrated Thermogenic Medi-Biological Weight Loss supplement’s ingredients label, it is forbidden to be used in food supplements, as it can be only administered by prescription.

Consumption of Yohimbine may cause unwanted side effects, the health services said.

According to medical information, Yohimbine, which comes from the bark of a tree in Central Africa, is used mainly by vets to bring animals around when they are sedated. The bark is also used in Africa as an aphrodisiac. Overdoses can lead to high blood pressure or hallucinations.

The announcement said that Yohimbine was also detected during lab tests on the product, which is imported from the US, with LOT number 1312057 and barcode 851780002520. Expiration date is January 2017.

The importer, who faces sanctions, has been notified and asked to withdraw the product from the market immediately.

Consumers who already bought the product have been asked to avoid consumption and return it to the shop they bought it from.
