National SAR plan activated to help a man injured in parachute activities

A man was injured on Sunday in parachute activities at the British Military Base in Dhekelia area and was transferred by helicopter to the General Hospital of Nicosia.

The Ministry of Defense announced that the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Larnaca received a distress call from JOC AKROTIRI, on 07 June, at 11:15 am (local time), that “a Cypriot 49 year old man was injured during parachute jumping activities that take place in British Military Base in Dhekelia area”.

The JRCC immediately activated the national SAR plan “NEARCHOS” and coordinated the SAR operation, in this case a MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) of the injured person to Nicosia General Hospital, using a helicopter of the 84 Squadron of the British Base.

The 49 year old was taken to the emergency department of Nicosia General Hospital at 12:23 pm (local time).

The injured person has an open fracture of the left femoral bone and his condition is stable, the Ministry said.
