Man arrested for series of arson attacks

A 32-year-old man was arrested late on Thursday in connection with a series of arson attacks and an attempted bombing that took place between 2012 and 2014, police spokesman Andreas Angelides said on Friday.

Angelides stated that police were focusing on eight open cases and added that three more arrest warrants had been issued.

The alleged crimes took place in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts.

The 32-year-old is suspected of setting fire to buildings, cars, causing damage, possession and transport of explosives as well as an attempted bombing.

“All the evidence will be evaluated and the cases in question will be investigated thoroughly. What is important here is the motive behind these criminal acts and this is what we are focusing on,” said Angelides.
