Fire at Nicosia airport

A fire broke out at Nicosia airport in the buffer zone, burning a quarter of a km of wild forests and dry plants just before 2:30 on Tuesday.

Fire services spokesperson Constantina Demetriou said eight fire trucks, two UN diggers and two vehicles from the occupied areas were at the scene to extinguish the flames.

They received the call at 2:24pm and authorities remained on scene into the evening to make sure that although the fire was out, the situation remained under control.
