Half of Nicosia still without water

Half of Nicosia remains without water on Sunday and the problem is not expected to be resolved before Monday late afternoon or Tuesday morning Nicosia Water Board Director Nicos Zambakides told CNA, on Sunday.

The supply of water was disrupted late last week due to a problem technical teams encountered in the process of maintenance work at the Tersefanou pipeline which provides water to all Nicosia municipalities.

Despite the fact that the technical problem was fixed the water flowing into the Water Board network stands at 2,000 cubic metres when total needs demand for 4,000 Zambakides told CNA.

“We do not have the capacity to supply all areas”, he said.

He explained that right now half of Nicosia is supplied with water. The Water Board has stopped supplying with water areas it supplied yesterday and is now supplying those who were left without, he added.

Hospitals are the exception to the rule, he pointed out, adding that it follows that the areas in the immediate vicinity of the hospitals are also supplied with water.

Replying to a CNA question he Zambakides said “the problem persists and on the basis of things are they stand today is not expected to be resolved before late on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.”
