Apartment block burglars foiled

POLICE IN Paphos arrested a 24-year-old Romanian man on Friday after they received reports of a break-in.

According to reports a local apartment-block owner had seen three suspicious looking people leaving his building and suspected they were burglars. As soon as they saw the owner they attempted to get away with a large black bag in their possession. The man, along with other members of the public, chased the three men and managed to catch one of them. The police were then notified.

The large black bag was in the 24-year-old’s possession when he was arrested. Inside, police found tools, two pairs of gloves, an electric screwdriver and a mobile phone. The 24-year-old admitted to entering the building with two other Romanians, whom he named, hoping to commit a burglary.

He told police that he would act as lookout while the other two would break in to a flat and steal items.

After investigations, police discovered one of the flats had been burgled. The owner is currently abroad and is due to return on July 4.

According to police the culprits had entered the flat by breaking the front door lock.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the arrest of the two other men.
