Greek-Turkish forum calls for revival of CBMs

THE Greek Turkish Forum (GTF) convened earlier this week in Athens where its members reviewed the recent efforts for rapprochement between Greece and Turkey and emphasised the importance of maintaining this communication between the two communities of Cyprus.

The GTF said in announcement that it is convinced that confidence building measures in Cyprus are of great value and urgently required.

“Taking into consideration recent research findings which suggest that the young generation in Cyprus is not coming together as decisively as one would wish, the GTF urges both communities to give attention to measures which will encourage dialogue and interaction between the communities in general and the young generation in particular,” the announcement said.

GTF said it also reviewed recent developments in the wider Middle East region and emphasised the importance of a solution to the Cyprus issue and the symbolic value such a solution would have in this part of the world where religious tensions and fanaticism are threatening stability, human rights and human life itself.
