Cypriot athletes in Turkey for Mediterranean Games

A TEAM of Cypriot athletes are in the southern Turkish province of Mersin to participate in the 17th Mediterranean Games which begin on Wednesday.

The Cypriot delegation was welcomed at Mersin’s Med Village during the official ceremony on Tuesday, ahead of the opening of the Games.
According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the ceremony was held at the Med Village on the university campus, accommodating the teams of the 24 countries participating in the Games.

The head of Mersin Med Village welcomed Cyprus and exchanged gifts with the head of the Cypriot mission, director-general of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) Olga Piperidou Chrysafi.

The national anthem was played and the Cypriot flag raised during the welcoming ceremony, which was also attended by COC president Ouranios Ioannides, secretary-general Charalambos Lottas, and treasurer of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) Kikis Lazarides, as well as athletes and members of the Cypriot mission.
