APOEL clinch cup triumph

APOEL NICOSIA were crowned Coca Cola Cup winners on Saturday night, after beating champions Anorthosis Famagusta by two goals to nil.

The Nicosia team was by far the strongest from the start until the end of the game, seeing Anorthosis’ hopes of a double quashed in spectacular fashion.

The Famagusta team’s appearance was nothing less than a surprise, considering it had finished off the championship 11 points ahead of second APOEL.

However, APOEL beat the 50/50 odds with a 53rd minute goal by defender Nuno Morais, followed by the 75th minute clincher by striker Nenad Mirosavljevic.

Out of 28 participations in Cup finals, APOEL has emerged victorious a total of 19 times.
