Vicious bull terrier kills two dogs

TWO dogs were attacked and mauled to death by a Staffordshire bull terrier in the Yermasoyia area in Limassol, according to a police report.

The two dogs were being walked by their owner when another dog attacked and mauled them to death. The 49-year old, a police sergeant, managed to drive the attacking dog away by using a knife handed to him by woman who witnessed the attack.

The 49-year old rushed his dogs to the vet but they were already dead.

The owner of the attacking dog was taken to the Yermasoyia police station where he was questioned. He was subsequently charged and released to return at a later date.

According to the police, the bull terrier’s owner told investigators that his dog was usually locked up in his yard, but left the house when someone left a garden door unlatched.

The report said that this is the second time the bull terrier killed another dog.

A bill regarding animal welfare is currently being discussed before the House Environmental committee which includes a ban on “dangerous” dog breeds. Bull terriers are included in the list, being one of the breeds preferred by organisers of dog fights.
