Increased security measures in place, police say

Police have stepped up security measures at sensitive locations on the island, following the terrorist attack against the French satirical review Charlie Hebdo earlier this week, which killed 12 people, and the hostage incidents that followed leaving more dead.

According to reliable sources, the police are taking “precautionary measures and the Republic`s security services are on continuous alert” to avert any possible incident.

The same sources have said that additional precautionary security measures are in place at entry points into the Republic, foreign embassies and other locations of foreign interests.

The Cypriot police are cooperating with other competent state services and assess in detail every piece of information that reaches them.
