Four Cypriots head for Beijing Paralympics

FOUR athletes will represent Cyprus at the Paralympic Games in Beijing beginning on September 6.

The national team comprises swimmers Karolina Pelendritou and Andreas Potamitis, Antonis Arestis (athletics 200m and 400m) and Evripidis Georgiou (Shooting, Air Pistol.)

The Cyprus National Paralympics Committee (CNPC) yesterday introduced the four athletes who will be participating in China.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Olympic Palace, President of the CNPC Christakis Antoniou expressed the belief the four will make every effort to represent Cyprus in the best possible way.

He also expressed the hope that they can break their individual records and achieve their set goals.

The four athletes said they have worked hard to prepare for the Games and pledged to make every effort to make their country proud.

Also present at the conference was the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, Zhao Yali, who wished all the best to the Cypriot athletes.

He also expressed his country’s gratitude to the government and people of Cyprus for their support to China in handling problems and difficulties prior to the start of the Olympic Games.

The Cypriot delegation departs for Beijing on August 29 and returns on September 20.

The Paralympic Games will be the biggest ever organised with more than 150 countries participating in 20 different sports.
