WITH only two weeks to go until his much anticipated live concert in Limassol, world famous DJ, Tiesto, has been told he will have to move venues.
“Due to very serious technical problems with the stadium in Limassol, unfortunately we’ve had no option but to change the venue. Tiesto will now be playing at the same time and date, but in a different city,” concert organiser Helen Katsamba told the Cyprus Mail.
DJ Tiesto will now be playing at the Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia.
The 40-year-old Grammy nominated Dutch Trance DJ is one of the most famous names in the world of dance music. Used to playing to huge crowds of adoring fans, Tiesto was the first DJ to play live at an Olympic Games, and opened the ceremony in Athens in 2004.
Voted the worlds No.1 DJ for three consecutive years by DJ magazine, his name is a play on his real name Tijs Verwest.
And how did the superstar DJ take the news?
“He was fine about it,” reported Katsamba. “He said he trusts us and our decisions.”
She continued, “It’s a shame we’ve had to change venues at the last minute, as so many fans were looking forward to seeing him in Limassol. It’s now a bit further for people from the west of the island to travel, and we’ve already sold lots of tickets to people in Paphos. Although the stadium in Nicosia holds the same number of people, 6,200, it’s a little older than Limassol. It’s still an excellent venue though,” she assured.
“We’re looking at ways to help people who’ve already bought tickets,” she added. “We may provide coaches from Paphos, or offer fans their money back.”
Katsamba lamented, “It’s really a shame that this has happened to marr this fantastic event. I wanted to bring Tiesto over primarily because it’s good for the younger people, and they don’t often get a chance to see these superstar DJs in action. The tickets had been selling like hot cakes before this turn of events happened yesterday and I hope they continue to do so.It’s been a very stressful 24 hours,” she said.
“I want to assure everyone the concert will be just the same and just as great, but in a different place, that’s all. Tickets are still available from the website and shops around Cyprus.”
