2.5 per cent of household expenditure spent on communications

In 2019, Cyprus spent 2.5 per cent of total household consumption expenditure on communications such as postal services, telephone and fax equipment and services, close to the EU average of 2.4 per cent.

The percentage is the same as Spain and a just a little higher than Ireland, which recorded 2.4 per cent, Eurostat reported on Wednesday.

Households in Bulgaria spend the highest share, 4.7 per cent, followed by Croatia with 4 per cent and Greece with 3.9 per cent.

At the other end of the scale, households in Luxembourg spent the lowest share of household expenditure on communications (1.3 per cent), followed by households in Denmark and Austria, both 1.9 per cent.

Between 2009 and 2019, the share of total household expenditure on communications decreased in a vast majority of the EU member states. The largest decrease was recorded in Estonia, from 4.0 per cent of total household expenditure in 2009 to 2.3 per cent in 2019.
