Coronavirus: Four deaths, 349 new cases (Updated)

The health ministry on Monday announced four coronavirus deaths – all elderly patients with underlying conditions and 349 new coronavirus cases, of which 142 were verifications of previous rapid tests.

There were another 212 positives from rapid tests, which are subject to verification.

A total of 9,951 tests were carried out on Monday of which 3,117 with PCR and the remaining 6,834 rapid antigen tests.

Monday’s results bring the total number of PCR confirmed cases since the start of the outbreak in March to 15,450 and the number of deaths to 82, of whom 52 men. The average age was 78.

Three of the four patients died at Famagusta Hospital – two women aged 85 and 86 and a man aged 96 . The fourth patient, an 89-year-old woman, died in Limassol hospital. All four had been transferred to hospital from care homes.

There are currently 123 coronavirus patients in hospital, 16 of them in serious condition. Ten are intubated in Nicosia ICU, two are in the ICU but off the ventilator and four are in the high dependency unit of Famagusta Hospital which has a total of 67 patients. Nicosia has another 13 in its Covid ward, Limassol 28 and Makarios Hospital three.

As regards the 3,117 PCR tests, 119 positive cases were from 793 tests from contact tracing, four from 995 tests among returning passengers, 50 from 472 private initiative tests, 31 from 402 tests from hospital labs and two from 86 tests at care homes. There were also 142 verifications of antigen tests from 149.

Another 6,834 rapid tests were carried out with 212 positive that will be subject to PCR verification.

Limassol had 31 after 1,124 tests (positivity rate 2.75 per cent), Larnaca had 56 from 1438 tests (3.89 per cent), Nicosia had 89 from 2794 (3.18 per cent), Paphos nine from 240 tests (3.75 per cent) and Famagusta ten from 584 tests (1.71 per cent). In addition, two tested positive after 256 antigen tests in the national guard (0.78 per cent) and another 15 after 398 private initiative tests (3.76 per cent).
