Coronavirus: Two deaths, 416 new cases (Updated)

Two deaths and a record 416 new cases of coronavirus out of 4,347 PCR tests were announced on Monday.

The health ministry said the people who died were two men aged 84 and 89. They had underlying health conditions but died of the virus. This brings the number of people who died of Covid-19 to 63: 41 men and 22 women with average age 77 years.

Two hundred of the new cases were PCR verifications of positive rapid tests taken in previous days.

Other cases include 144 through contact tracing, nine people who arrived from abroad and 48 individuals who got tested privately.

Another 10 cases were among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs and five more are people either in special groups or who were referred for testing by their family physicians.

This brings the number of cases so far since March to 12,867.

The health ministry also announced that 127 cases were detected from 5,105 rapid tests. These tests will now have to be confirmed with the molecular method (PCR).

Three of these tests were recorded during tests within the National Guard and four in the public sector and local government.

Another 55 cases were detected in the Nicosia district, 29 in Larnaca, 18 in the Famagusta district, 10 in Paphos and eight in Limassol.

There are 126 patients with Covid-19 in state hospitals, 20 in critical condition including nine who are intubated.
