Soldier, 19, killed in road crash

A 19-year-old National Guardsman was killed on Sunday morning after the car he was in with three friends crashed into a lighting pole on the Larnaca to Ayia Napa motorway, police said.
The group had been returning from a night out in Ayia Napa when the driver, 18, apparently lost control near the Pyla exit and slammed into the pole.
Marios Karoullas was sitting in the back, behind the front passenger, police said.
He was the only one not wearing his seatbelt.
The other three were rushed to hospital for treatment but their condition was not life threatening.
The driver of the car was arrested after an alcohol test showed he had been over the legal limit – 49 micrograms instead of 22.
Speed was yet again the main reason for the accident, police said.
