Rock v classics

Think Deep Purple and Bach, Queen and Vivaldi, Nirvana and Beethoven. In theory, they don’t have much in common. They are on opposite sides of the musical spectrum, classical and rock yet they are the agenda for an upcoming performance in Paphos.

On Sunday, November 8, virtuoso Cypriot musicians the Papageorgio string quartet and opera diva mezzo-soprano Anastasia Maximova will perform their Rock VS Classics show at Markeidio Theatre in Paphos. Last year, the same concert was sold out a month before its performance and was named Paphos’ Top Concert Event of Autumn 2019. Now, they return for another edition – given that nothing changes with Covid measures by then.

In their performance, the musicians blend pieces many know yet probably have never thought of together. The concert will begin with Vivaldi’s Summer together with the all-time-favourite Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. The repertoire will continue to merge rock songs with classic tunes such as Led Zeppelin with Bach as well as well-known soundtracks from films like Amelie and the Pirates of the Caribbean.
