Credit-card theft suspect arrested in Limassol

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Limassol late Monday for trying to use what was suspected to be a stolen credit card at a kiosk.

Police were told by a kiosk worker that the man entered the premises around 10pm and asked to buy two mobile phones and two prepaid cards for €100 each.

The clerk began the transaction and the man handed over a credit card, which was not accepted because he used the wrong PIN number.

When the kiosk owner asked him to pay in cash, he told her he would go to an ATM and come back. She immediately called police and the suspect was found by a patrol which had been briefed on his description, and was entering another kiosk.

Officers approached the suspect and during a search of his person they said they found five credit cards in the name of another person.

On further investigation, after his arrest, police discovered the suspect had been involved in similar cases in the recent past in Limassol.

On interrogation, police said the suspect admitted to the previous offences and the theft of a wallet in Nicosia.
