Long road to reforms

Specific proposals on civil service reform will be tabled by the end of the year, undersecretary to the president Constantinos Petrides said on Monday.

Petrides, who is overseeing civil service reform, said it was a continuous effort that must go on in the coming years.

Petrides is currently engaged in a round of talks with parties on the matter.

Beyond the promotions and payroll, discussion will continue on various other issues like the public’s relationship with the states, transactions mediums, and transparency matters.

Details will be studied in the coming months by an advisory committee that will include party representatives.

Petrides said there was a need for a change in mentality. Some important things will happen soon, but the effort must continue in the next few years.

He stressed that reforms taking place in other countries must also be implemented in Cyprus.
