Apollon moves three points clear at the top

As expected all three home sides, Apollon, Anorthosis and Pafos FC picked up the three points against Ethnikos Achnas, Olympiakos and Nea Salamina respectively but not before a scare or two.

Apollon moved three points clear at the top following their 2-1 win against a COVID depleted Ethnikos Achnas who had no fewer than 17 players out due to the virus.

Digiuny opened the score in the 23rd minute side-footing the ball past Achna’s (not yet) 16-year-old goalkepper Kavaleuskiy.
Achna responded and equalized through Dolezal six minutes later.

Benschop scored the winner five minutes before the break but Apollon have to thank their goalkeeper Demetriou who saved from Dolezal when clean through in the second half.

The other COVID hit team Nea Salamina were unlucky to leave Pafos empty handed with Pafos FC’s coach Toshack admitting after the game that ‘today we had bit of luck’.

Andreou and Danilo spurned two big opportunities to give Nea Salamina the lead in the second half before Angulo hit the back of the net to give Pafos FC their first win of the season.

Anorthosis defeated Oylmpiakos in the final Saturday evening game by 2-0.

Kvitalia gave the Famagusta team the lead in the 23rd minute in a first half that saw Anorthosis camped outside the visitor’s penalty box.

In the second half though Olympiakos were much improved and went close on a number of occasions. They also had a penalty shout when Vrgoc appears to wrestle Nani to the ground but referee Soteriou saw it differently and penalised the Olympiakos player for a foul.

Anorthosis made sure of the three points late on in the game after Kvilitaia was felled by Olympiakos goalkeeper Michael and Okriashvili scored his fourth penalty kick of the season.
