Coronavirus: Seven new cases on Sunday (Update)

The health ministry on Sunday announced seven new coronavirus cases, bringing the total up to 1,339.

The new cases are a result of 2,475 tests.

Specifically, three cases were found as part of checks on travellers and repatriates, two cases found in Larnaca from random sampling, one case as part of testing special groups after a GP recommended they take the test following symptoms they had and one from private initiative, after they developed symptoms.

The travellers were two individuals that returned from Thessaloniki on Saturday night on the same flight but were not related or had any connection. One is a Greek permanent resident in Cyprus that went for holidays to Greece and the second is a Cypriot, permanent resident in Germany.

The third is a Nigerian man who is a permanent resident in Cyprus. He returned to the island via Athens and was tested at the airport. According to the health ministry, he was asymptomatic.

Two people are in the Famagusta reference hospital, one of which is in the high dependency unit. One person was discharged from the hospital on Sunday, the health ministry said.
