Mavroyiannis’ wife dies of cancer

KALLIOPI Mavroyiannis, wife of the Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis, died on Wednesday succumbing to cancer.

The 53-year old was a teacher and an avid sailing fan. She served on the board of the Cyprus Sailing Federation as well as the National Paralympic Committee.

The funeral service will take place at 3pm on Thursday at the Panagia Eleousa church in Agros village.

President Nicos Anastasiades sent his condolences to the family. Parliamentary parties also issued statements expressing their sorrow over Mavroyiannis’ loss.

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay took to Twitter to express his sorrow, saying that he was saddened “by the passing of Mrs Mavroyiannis, wife of my counterpart and dear friend Andreas. My condolences to my dear friend Andreas and his family.”
