Two men remanded after attacking and robbing pensioner

Two men suspected of attacking and robbing a 66-year-old woman from Limassol last Sunday, were remanded on Friday for seven days.

The two suspects, a 47-year-old Greek Cypriot and a European national aged 49, were arrested after police secured a testimony linking them with the case.

Another man, 46, reportedly a Greek Cypriot, was also arrested in connection with the same case and was remanded on Thursday for eight days.

The three are suspected of being involved in the brutal attack and robbery of the woman in her Limassol apartment last Sunday morning. The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition with head and body injuries after being attacked by two men. Police said her condition was improving.

They said the robbers were waiting for the woman outside her apartment’s door and as soon as she stepped outside they grabbed her, led her inside the house, tied and gagged her and beat her, demanding money. The robbers also hit the woman on the head with a metal object.

They took cash, jewellery and other valuable items and fled in a car driven by a third person waiting for them outside.

According to reports, the two men, 46 and 49, are known to the police for break-ins and thefts in jewellery shops.
