Coronavirus: five new cases announced on Friday (Updated)

Five new coronavirus cases were announced by the health ministry on Friday, bringing the total to 980.

The new cases emerged from a total of 1,289 tests processed on Friday.

All cases were related to travel and repatriation.

Two cases came from individuals, who arrived from the UK a day apart from each other on June 7 and 8.

The third case emerged from contact tracing, and is an individual, who was in contact with the confirmed case yesterday.

There was one case from repatriated individuals, and another from vulnerable groups, the ministry said.

The repatriated individual returned from Doha, Qatar, while the case from vulnerable groups, was also an individual who returned from the UK and was tested on the recommendation of his personal doctor.

The case from the vulnerable groups initially tested negative on their return from the UK at the start of June, but then presented symptoms and was told by their doctor to be tested.

Three of the cases were discovered from 39 cases processed from contact tracing.

The repatriated individual who tested positive emerged from 279 tests processed.

The case found from vulnerable groups emerged from among a group of 261 tests processed on Friday.

The ministry also processed 173 tests from hairdressers, aestheticians, and restaurant workers.

Another 55 were processed from schools, 145 from state hospital laboratories, and 337 from individuals tested on private initiative.

Earlier, the ministry reported there were two patients being treated for the virus at Famagusta General, the reference hospital.

Doctors said their condition was good.
