Two quarantined for suspected Covid-19 cases (Update)

An army camp in Nicosia was under quarantine on Sunday after it was looking at a suspected Covid-19 case while results are still pending for a separate case of a 20-year-old that had been arrested and taken to a police station in Nicosia.

According to reports, the Elias Papakyriakou army camp in Athalassa was placed under quarantine after a Cypriot soldier appeared to have symptoms related to Covid-19. He had recently travelled to Patra, Greece.

The soldier has been transferred to Nicosia general hospital and kept in isolation. Meanwhile, soldiers at the army camp are not allowed to leave until the results are ready, which is expected to be on Monday.

Soldiers who were due to return to the camp were also not allowed to go back until the results were published.

Results are also pending for a separate case relating to a 20-year-old man who had been arrested and taken to Omorfita police station in Nicosia on Saturday night but shortly after 8pm began to exhibit symptoms of the Covid-19.

He was taken to the Nicosia general hospital and then transferred to Limassol general hospital where he is currently quarantined until the results are ready, police said.

All police members who were in contact with the suspect and consequently people who the police had been in touch with have been tested and told to self-isolate until the results are ready.

The Omorfita police station temporarily shut down but has since re-opened after it was disinfected.
