Desperate need for a small claims court

I refer to the article `Court proceedings an impossible situation for all’ (Sunday Mail, July 6). I agree entirely with those sentiments. Our courts are clogged up and it takes years to see any cases to the end. This of course is great news for money hungry solicitors who will charge their clients anything from €200-€1000 per court appearance. It is now not worth taking any case to court!

The answer is simple, implement a Small Claims Courts to deal with cases up to say €3000 .These do not require solicitors to represent clients. So guess what? Solicitors have prevented this development because it will reduce their income. They are holding the whole country to ransom.

Unfortunately all governments so far have not wanted to upset solicitors so they have let this situation continue until it becomes totally unworkable. We, the public, should pressure politicians to make this obvious but essential change to our legal system. So many other countries have small claims courts, why not Cyprus? We demand a workable justice system, we need it now!
