It may only be the first round of group matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but there have already been some embarrassing moments in Brazil that certain people will want to forget.
Here are the seven biggest fails at the World Cup so far…
7. Cristiano Ronaldo free kick fail v Germany
Although fuelled by frustration, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo made a hash of his trademark free kick attempt with only one German as a wall.
However, he did do much better later in the game when he struck a powerful free kick that forced a fine save from Manuel Neuer.
6. Iker Casillas miscontrol lets Van Persie in
With the score at 3-1 and 18 minutes left, the next goal was crucial.
If champions Spain got it, they would be back in the game. Instead, the Dutch were handed it by Casillas’ error.
He fumbled a back pass which allowed Robin van Persie in for the fourth goal.
5. Marcelo own goal v Croatia
Marcelo got Brazil’s World Cup off to the worst possible start when he poked the ball into his own net to gift Croatia a 1-0 lead.
Although the hosts recovered to win in somewhat controversial circumstances, the Real Madrid man will not want to see or do that again!
4. Akinfeev error gifts South Korea the lead
Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev let Lee Keun-Ho’s shot in the second half squirm through his grasp to hand South Korea a surprise 1-0 lead.
Luckily for Akinfeev, team-mate Alexandr Kerzhakov spared his blushes when he tied the match at 1-1.
3. Wayne Rooney corner kick fail v Italy
This attempt at a corner kick might be the closest Wayne Rooney comes to scoring a goal at the World Cup.
Despite beautifully setting up England’s first-half equaliser, his corner was so bad that the only time the ball was in play was before he actually kicked it!
2. England physio Gary Lewin dislocates ankle while celebrating
Daniel Sturridge’s goal for England against Italy sparked wild celebrations during which physio Gary Lewin received treatment.
Lewin had dislocated his ankle on a water bottle whilst celebrating England’s equaliser and had to be stretchered off.
As unfortunate as his freak injury was, it was also highly humiliating and laughable.
1. Joachim Loew picks his nose and shakes some hands
Germany head coach Loew loves a good nose pick, but couldn’t hide from the camera.
If that was not disgusting enough, he then shook hands with countless people – including Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo – following his side’s 4-0 win.
