High levels of dust in the atmosphere

The Department of Labour Inspection has warned there is an increased amount of dust in the atmosphere.

At 10am Thursday the average dust level was between 88 and 157 micrograms per cubic metre, well in excess of the safe level of 50mg/cubic m.

The department urged people working in open air to take measures for their safety and adviced vulnerable groups – children, the elderly and ill people – to avoid going outside until the phenomenon recedes.
