Limassol fire put under control

A fire in the Arsos-Kedares area that broke out on Wednesday lunchtime has been put under control after burning four square kilometres of wild shrub and trees.

A strong force remains in the area while three helicopters and a light plane resumed fire fighting operations with the first light.

Residents of the village of Kedares, who assembled at the village square as a precaution, remained there until late last night before returning home.

The fire service said 28 fire fighting vehicles from various departments, seven excavators, eight aircraft, and 110 people had taken part in the effort to bring the blaze under control.
