Greek foreign minister due in Cyprus on Monday

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos arrives in Cyprus on Monday for his first official visit as minister.

“The purpose of my first official visit to Cyprus is the mutual briefing and the overall coordination of our actions regarding the national issues, with special emphasis placed on the Cyprus Issue,” he told CNA.

Regarding the developments in the energy field, Greek diplomatic sources noted that during the forthcoming Cyprus-Greece-Israel trilateral summit, which will be held in Jerusalem, in the presence of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a serious effort would be made to sign the agreement for the construction of the EastMed pipeline.

“Alternatively, the agreement will be signed during the next trilateral summit in Crete, where Italy will also participate, and therefore we will be able to examine the concerns that they express,” the sources said.

During his stay in Cyprus Katrougalos will have official meetings with President Nicos Anastasiades, Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides, House President Demetris Syllouris, and Archbishop Chrysostomos.
