Classical music marks Women’s Day

With International Women’s Day coming up on Friday, two female musicians are holding a performance dedicated to women. With Sing, Play, Love, mezzo-soprano Anastasia Maksimova and pianist Ekaterina Knyazeva will present an opera and piano recital in Paphos on Friday and in Nicosia the following day.

Blending their expertise, the repertoire will embody various musical styles from Chopin to Piazzola, Dalila’s Aria, Piazzola Tango, while Llorando’s song from the legendary film Mulholland Drive will be performed within opera margins for the first time as well as the romances of German Jewish composer Kurt Weil.

“The mastery, virtuosity and depth of these female performers are recognised throughout the world,” say organisers. Maksimova is an opera singer, a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory and performer of the best-known classical arias of the world.

Knyazeva is a concert solo pianist, performing at leading concert venues in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the USA and Russia. Since 2018 she has been Head of the Piano Department of the Zurich Music Academy.
