Two teenage girls rescued after sledge falls into gorge

Two teenage girls who fell 300m into a gorge while sledging in Troodos had to be rescued by the police on Sunday morning.

Police were informed about the accident at 11.30 in the morning, and a helicopter unit was immediately dispatched.

Police and a member of the air response team who was off duty but was in Troodos also went to the area.

The 19-year-old, who was conscious throughout the rescue was taken by helicopter to Nicosia general hospital, where she underwent an examination. The 14-year-old was taken to the same hospital, where she was diagnosed with a leg injury.

Police motorcyclists had to block the dense traffic coming down the mountains to ease the path of the ambulance.
