Cyprus to set up a General Secretariat on European Affairs

Cyprus will set up a General Secretariat on European Affairs with the aim of improving coordination of authorities on EU matters and the country’s participation in the EU.

According to the Cyprus News Agency a decision is expected to be taken within the next few weeks by the Council of Ministers.

The Secretariat will comprise four Directories. The first two will deal with issues raised by representatives to the EU, the third with issues of the European Council and the fourth with issues related to strategic planning.

The Secretariat will promote horizontal coordination on EU issues, improve the positions of Cyprus tabled before the EU, promote better coordination with Cypriot MEPs and support Cypriot candidacies for posts in EU institutions.
