Teenagers held for bike thefts

Two teenage boys were remanded in custody for two days by the Famagusta district court on
Monday in connection with a case of theft of mopeds, motorcycles and bicycles.

According to the police, the teenagers – 14 and 15 years of age – were allegedly involved in nine
cases of theft of mopeds, motorcycles, and bicycles that took place between October 2018 and
January 2019 in the Famagusta district.

The youngsters, reportedly confessed to the thefts when questioned in the presence of the their
parents. They also informed police of several spots in the Famagusta district at which five stolen
mopeds and one motorbike were found.
 
The 14-year-old boy was stopped by police on Sunday afternoon, riding a bicycle that was reported
stolen from the foyer of an apartment block in the Famagusta district, to the police, two hours
earlier. Two bikes worth €500 were reported stolen to the Paralimni police station. The second was
found in a park, close to where the teenager was detained.

A 15-year-old boy was later detained in connection with the case and also appeared in court on
Monday.
