Lack of fuel causes bus fire

Lack of fuel caused a bus belonging to the Paphos bus company (Osypa) to burst into flames on Saturday morning, damaging its engine and interior.

The bus was parked in the parking lot of Osypa’s repair shop in Mesogi.

Firefighters rushed to the scene with three trucks, and doused the fire before it could spread.

Initial investigations by the police and fire service earlier on Saturday suggested the fire might have been caused by a malicious act, but the fire service later confirmed the cause of the fire to be lack of fuel.

According to Osypa CEO Constantinos Ioannides, the driver had realised that there was a problem with the bus as he was making his way towards to the repair shop. The fire then broke out as soon as the driver had parked the bus, he added.

In addition to members of the fire service, Osypa mechanics and experts of the manufacturing company examined the damaged bus.
