Communities that give animals as prizes ‘will be named and shamed’

THE Animal Party has announced that it would name and shame any local authority that would offer a live animal as raffle prizes during the festive season.

The party said in an announcement that according to the law on animal welfare, it is forbidden for animals to be given away as a raffle prize.

Any municipality or community that is found to advertise such prizes, the party said, will be named and shamed.

The party has been campaigning against the practice where animals are being given away as raffle prizes or as prizes to winners of sports and games organised in villages during the holidays of Christmas and Easter.
