Boy dies in north after bomb explodes in his hands

A small bomb that had not detonated caused a 13-year-old boy in the north to lose his life on Friday near a shooting range in the area of Kira in Morphou.

Makhir Ismailov was found by his parents on Friday morning when they went looking for him as he had not been seen since the previous afternoon.

He was found in a pool of blood in an area where he appears to have gone to collect wild vegetables.

Late on Friday, police in the north announced the cause of death was handling a military ammunition that exploded when it was touched.

According to daily Yeni Duzen, it was a military bomb and there are others in the same area that have not been detonated, while Afrika said this is because years ago the area was used as a firing range.

Once the parents found the body, in addition to emergency services, a coroner and a special unit of the Turkish army visited the scene.

According to the police, an autopsy showed that the boy died from contact with an explosive that caused major damage to his internal organs and major arteries.
