Re-remand for suspects in Rodotheou attempted murder

The Nicosia district court on Thursday re-remanded in custody for another eight days two of the suspects arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Nicos Rodotheou in Nicosia last month.

Re-remanded in custody are a 26-year-old Greek Cypriot and a 37-year-old Palestinian man.

A third arrestee, a 33-year-old Greek Cypriot, has since been released.

The police investigator told the court that the 26-year-old suspect has admitted to police the involvement of the 37-year-old.

In addition, genetic material recovered from evidence has been matched to the 37-year-old’s DNA.

Police are also seeking two other persons. They are Iosif Iosif, 40, from Nicosia; and Miroslav Balazovjech, 37, a Slovakian national.

Balazovjech may be using the alias Rudolf Dydi.

According to the police, both Iosif and Balazovjech are acquaintances of the 37-year-old suspect.

On November 26, unknown individuals on a motorcycle had fired five shots at the rear of Rodotheou’s car, but missed.

The assailants then fled the scene.

Rodotheou is the brother of businessman Andros Rodotheou who was gunned down while at a friend’s house at the village of Gerasa, Limassol in April last year.
