Theft suspect remained at scene of car break-in… wearing stolen jacket

A 36-year-old man was remanded for two days by the Paphos district court on Saturday after his arrest in the same car park where he allegedly broke into someone’s parked vehicle.

The Paphos resident was arrested on Friday, after a complaint was filed regarding a car break-in at a Paphos mall. The complainant claimed a distinctive red jacket, a vest, cologne, a pair of sunglasses, and his wallet were stolen.

Police arrived at the crime scene where, during their investigation, they found the suspect sitting inside another parked car, wearing the jacket described by the victim, who immediately identified it, CNA reported.

Following the arrest, police conducted a body search, also finding a bat and a pocket knife, they said.

They then searched the suspect’s car, finding the remainder of the objects reported stolen as well as burglary tools, a flashlight, a woollen hat, rubber gloves, and various dangerous weapons such as bats and knives.

Police also found a number of electronic devices and coins, which they suspect were stolen items.
