Huge choir comes to life

A total of 200 musicians and music lovers will join their voices for the biggest choir performance the island has seen yet. A project that started in July is finally ready to put on a show for the public later today.

As an ambitious initiative, the Big Choir Project aims to develop and promote musical talent in Cyprus, and its representation in the international music industry.

The project has resulted in the creation of the largest (by number of members) choir in Cyprus called the Pancyprian Artists Chorus. This musical ensemble is comprised of more than 200 professional musicians as well as music graduates and current students, high school musicians and choir members from across the island and abroad.

The founder of the project, Nicolas Therapontos will also serve as the choir’s Conductor and Director.

Nicolas is a University of Nicosia graduate in Music Education and holder of a postgraduate degree in Education Sciences. He is also a music teacher and conductor of three choral ensembles in Larnaca and Nicosia. Nicolas’ old university is a proud supporter of this project and has provided a dedicated space on-campus for the choir to host its meetings.

Nicolas said he always wanted to offer something to the music and culture field and that Cyprus musically needs something very big. So, this huge project was born.

The choir repertoire will not be limited to one specific genre and the project includes musicians from varied backgrounds and they plan to embody many types of music.
