Police warn of exercise at Larnaca airport

Police announced that an emergency and preparedness exercise will take place early on Friday at Larnaca airport.

The exercise is organised by the Cyprus Police (Airport Security Division) and the Israeli Air Safety Service, with the support of Hermes Airports, Civil Aviation, Customs and Private Security Company ICTS.

The around two-hour exercise, that will start at 1am, will be based on three scenarios of terrorist attacks, the two will concern the check-in area and the third the gates after the security check.

During the exercise, blank shots will be fired and replica weapons will be used.

“All this is an exercise scenario and there is no cause for concern,” police said.

There are no scheduled flights during the exercise, police said, while Larnaca airport’s runway will be closed during the period of time for planned maintenance works.

Measures will be taken to avoid causing discomfort to passengers.
